How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks For Good

If you are like me, one of the thousands of people plagued by infamous stretch marks, do not fret, there are solutions available to you. To get rid of stretch marks you must first be aware as to what can cause them.

Unfortunately when I was growing up I was not schooled on the importance of using body lotion. Naive, I believed that if you put on lotion you were simply making your skin greasy and more susceptible to breaking out. I was 100% wrong. Skin is a vital organ, and needs to stay constantly moisturized. In keeping the skin's elasticity in check you will reduce your chances in getting stretch marks that are onset by either weight gain or growth spurts. Personally, I never used body lotion until recently. If I had any idea as to how important it was to use while growing up I would probably not have any stretch marks at all.

I have been on numerous websites and have spoken to numerous professionals asking how to get rid of stretch marks and would like to share the knowledge that I have obtained on the subject.

It is difficult to completely banish the marks, as they are actually scars, but by doing the following you can make them less noticeable. Here is how to get rid of stretch marks.

1. I gained way too many marks by suddenly gaining 40 pounds while in college. I changed my diet and started to exercise more frequently. Once I lost the weight, the marks shrank and became virtually unnoticeable. They are definitely still there, but you can only see them up close.

2. As mentioned before, moisturize! If you are lucky enough to not have any visible marks do not put your skin in the position where if a sudden growth spurt happens you will suddenly gain the marks. Mothers to be use tummy butter or cocoa butter on your abdomen to help prevent the dreaded baby bump pink stretch marks. Teenagers or anyone who may be noticing their weight increasing should also use body lotion. If lotion is not used, skin that suddenly stretches will form scars that almost resemble cracks. The marks can appear to be either white or pink. To prevent this, choose a lotion with a lot of Vitamin E content or cocoa butter. These ingredients will improve the skins elasticity and help you steer clear of stretch mark alley.

If you are like me, a little too late in preventing them, it is never ever too late to moisturize. To get rid of stretch marks, I teamed up diet with exercise and bought a bottle of Vitamin E firming lotion. I applied this twice a day and it has helped me immensely. You can also purchase a bottle of pure Vitamin E oil or Vitamin E oil capsules and apply that to the affected area, pure oil however may make you feel uncomfortable because it is rather greasy.

3. Finally there are medical treatments available to you if you have a severe case and extra money on hand. The most popular treatments are surgical solutions that include laser therapy, microdermabrasion (which is a cosmetic procedure where the top-most layer of skin is removed) or even cosmetic surgery.

If option three sounds scary and expensive you can exfoliate your skin at home. Moisturize, increase your water intake and add exercise to your routine which will all aid in reducing the appearance of the marks. Some people even go tanning to tighten and even out their skin tone. Beware of over the counter creams that promise mark removal. Most of those creams are a combination of Vitamin E oil and other scar treatment medication but is sometimes not effective.

With these tips in mind I hope the above will help you in your effort to reduce your stretch marks.
